Jake Sin, former director of esports for PUBG Corp., announced on Twitter that he has returned to Riot Games Korea to assume the role of esports special projects lead. According to his announcement, Sin’s new role will include work on launching esports programs for Riot’s newer titles, in addition to supporting League of Legends esports in South Korea.
Sin previously worked for Riot Games Korea as an esports manager for three years, departing in 2017. He joined PUBG Corp. as director of esports in 2018, and left the company at the end of last year.
Riot’s new wave of games which began with the auto-battler Teamfight Tactics and continued recently with the launch of Legends of Runeterra – a card game set in the League of Legends universe – is expected to receive significant esports support from the company, which confirmed as much for TFT late last year. In addition to these two titles, Riot is developing a tactical shooter, a fighting game, and a mobile version of League of Legends – all genres which have well-defined esports ecosystems.
