Global tournament operator ESL has officially rescheduled the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major originally set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in May. The ESL One Rio 2020 Major will be moved to Nov. 19-22 at the same venue, the Jeunesse Arena. Tickets purchased for the May event will remain valid for November, but ESL will also offer refunds upon request.

Traditionally, the CS:GO ecosystem includes two Majors per year, each with a $1M USD prize pool. According to the announcement, the prize pool that would have been allocated for this year’s Major in May will be added to the event in November, giving the ESL One Rio 2020 Major a $2M prize pool.

In early 2019, CSGO publisher Valve announced that Majors in 2020 and 2021 would take place in May and November, respectively. No tournament organizer had yet been announced for the 2020 November Major, so it appears that the 2020 schedule will now feature a single $2M Major to take place in November.

The Esports Observer has reached out to ESL for confirmation and additional details.
