Following last week’s release of FIFA 20, EA Sports has announced the first details for the upcoming FIFA 20 Global Series competitive season.
The overall structure is very similar to that of the FIFA 19 Global Series. The FIFA 20 Global Series schedule is anchored by six FIFA Ultimate Team Champions Cups between Nov. 8 and May 15, 2020, each of which is a live event and an “EA Major.”
A FIFA eClub World Cup will take place in February, the FIFA eNations Cup follows in May, and a pair of playoffs events take place in June ahead of the season-ending FIFA eWorld Cup in July 2020. All told, the season will award more than $3M in prize money.
More than 20 traditional soccer leagues will participate in the FIFA 20 Global Series—an increase over the 17 leagues that were involved for FIFA 19. The list includes the UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga, ePremier League, Major League Soccer (MLS), and La Liga, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
“The EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series is the most inclusive esports competition on the planet,” said FIFA Competitive Gaming Commissioner Brent Koning, in a release. “Anyone can become a superstar, and the opportunity to do so has accelerated with the more than 20 official league partners now in the mix. This connection to global sport drives viewer intrigue, and that positions us well for surpassing last year’s 800 million minutes of EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Global Series content watched.”
According to an EA Sports representative, the FIFA 20 Global Series will produce more broadcast content than the FIFA 19 season, and the company aims to surpass one billion minutes watched across the entire FIFA 20 season.
