Apex Legends publisher EA and developer Respawn Entertainment have announced the Apex Legends Global Series.
The tournament series will be comprised of 12 events – held by either EA and Respawn, PGL, or Global Loot League – with a total prize pool of $3 million (£2.28 million) up for grabs.

John Nelson, Sr. Director & Commissioner, Apex Legends Competitive Gaming at EA commented on the series: “Apex Legends is one of the most impactful launches in videogame history and it possesses immense esports potential. Through close communication with our community, we’ve built an accessible Apex Legends ecosystem where any player can become a potential star while the world watches our unique, entertaining take on Battle Royale esports.”
The first event in the Apex Legends Global Series is an online event that’ll take place on January 25th. Players will be able to earn qualifying points and an invitation to the first offline Major on March 13-15th. The first three Major tournaments will include 100 three-player squads, with the fourth Major – the Apex Legends Global Series Championship – acting as the culmination of the season.

Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment added: “Competition is at the heart of Apex Legends. We expect that esports will play a big role in the future of Apex Legends and it all starts here, with the Apex Legends Global Series. We look forward to seeing who, out of our millions of players, will become true legends of the arena.”
All four of the major events will utilise a points system that sees competitors accrue points over the course of the season. Devised through a combination of match placements and accumulated kills, the system will go towards determining which teams make the finals.
Esports Insider says: This long-awaited announcement for Apex Legends’ official esports initiative should open a host of opportunities for players who have been long waiting for this to get going. It’ll be interesting to see how the Global Series is received considering the dwindling nature of Apex Legends’ popularity.
