Dreamleague Season 22 Review – Format, Teams, Prize Pool And More

by Zlosterr

DreamLeague Season 22 is just around the corner, and we already know everything about the tournament. Let’s see what to expect.

DreamLeague Season 22 will be the second big Dota 2 tournament of 2024 after the end of BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024, and it will offer us a lot of action. Although there’s no DPC anymore, this tournament is important. In addition to prize money, teams will also win EPT points, which will help them qualify for additional tournaments from ESL.

This DreamLeague Season 22 review will show you everything you should be aware of regarding this tournament. It starts on February 25 and will last until March 10.

DreamLeague Season 22 League Information and Format

Before taking a look at the DreamLeague Season 22 schedule, we should share a few words about the league. DLS22 will be an online tournament organized by ESL Gaming. If you check the sponsor list, you can find a lot of big names, including Predator, DHL, Intel, and even the U.S. Air Force.

Regarding the format, the tournament will have a total of 16 teams. Four of them received an invitation from the EPT Leaderboard (ESL’s own leaderboard), whereas the other came from the regional qualifiers.

Two Group Stages

What’s specific about DreamLeague Season 22 is that there will be two group stages. The first one will include two single round-robin groups where only the top 4 teams will survive. All matches will be in a Bo2 format.

Once it is time for the second group stage, we’ll have one big group where all games are Bo3. Once the matches are over, the two will go to the Upper Bracket of the playoffs, whereas the 3rd and 4th-place teams will go to the Lower Bracket.

Playoffs

When it’s time for the Dota 2 DreamLeague Season 22 playoffs, we’ll have a classic double-elimination bracket. As expected, all matches are in a best-of-three format, and the Grand Final is in a best-of-five format.

DreamLeague Season 22 Teams & Groups

Following the end of the DreamLeague Season 22 closed qualifiers, we know the names of all Dota 2 teams that will be a part of the event. As mentioned, there will be 16 teams in total, 4 of which received in invitation. The good news is that we already have information about the groups, so here’s what you need to know.

Group A

The first DreamLeague Season 22 Group has the following teams:

  • Azure Ray
  • G2.iG
  • BetBoom Team
  • Heroic
  • OG
  • Gaimin Gladiators
  • Team Falcons
  • Virtus.Pro

There are a few names here that are definitely in a much better position than the rest. Starting with Team Falcons, the rising start in MENA did the impossible and defeated Team Liquid at BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024. This was the squad’s first big victory, and it allowed them to win $400,000 and the respect of others. Needless to say, fans will be eager to see them back in action.

Another name in Group A that people will keep an eye on is BetBoom Team. The squad from Eastern Europe had a strong start to 2024 after securing the 3rd spot at BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024. Moreover, a lot of experts and professional players alike have said that BetBoom is one of the “hidden gems”, so we learn a lot from them.

Next on the list is Azure Ray, the Chinese powerhouse. Even though some believe G2.iG is better, the results from the last couple of months show that Azure Ray is the leader in the region. It will be interesting to see if AR will have what it takes to bring down its strong squads from the West.

Speaking of teams from the west, Gaimin Gladiators is the last name from the DreamLeague Season 22 standings in Group A that we want to talk about. Arguably the best Dota 2 team in 2023 hasn’t had the best start. Nevertheless, we believe the team will step up its game and show why it won so many competitions last year.

Group B

The second DreamLeague Season 22 group will have the following names:

  • 1win
  • Aurora
  • Team Liquid
  • Team Spirit
  • Xtreme Gaming
  • Team Secret
  • Tundra Esports
  • Shopify Rebellion

There’s no arguing that the 2nd group at DreamLeague Season 22 does not have as many favorites as the first one. In fact, we believe Team Liquid is the best team here and the favorite. Western Europe’s powerhouse recently finished second at BBD2024 Dubai and it has been one of the most stable teams throughout 2023.

Tundra Esports will be a very intriguing name that a lot of fans will be eager to see. The current lineup has some pretty big names, such as Topson and MinD_ContRoL, both of which have won TI. Fans are yet to see if they will be enough to win against the best right now.

Lastly, we have the Chinese squad Xtreme Gaming. One of the reasons why we believe XG will step up their game is Ame’s decision to join the squad. He used to be among the best Chinese players, so it will be exciting to see his impact on the team.

Final Words

Now that we know everything about the DreamLeague Season 22 bracket, we just have to wait for the event to start. As mentioned earlier, the action kicks off on February 25, so we have 5 days until then.
