Dragon Reworks, Augment Changes and More

by Rohat Dicle Kılınç

TFT Set 7 is getting its first set of changes since its launch so let’s look at what are these.

Dragonlands has been live for a couple of weeks by now and it can be said that it is a success for Riot. Players once again enjoyed the new set, even though there was a worry the lesser number of newer set mechanics could turn some people away.

Still, with all the positives, TFT is a hard game to balance and constant changes are needed. While there is a good variety of viable comps in the live patch, there are also some valid complaints about some champions and traits. For example, players have been complaining about the lack of proper AP carries, some 4-costs like Corki not being viable enough and some Dragons not being strong enough.

With the 12.12 ahead, the lead designer of TFT Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer has released a video talking about the changes that will arrive. The patch is looking very hefty with nearly 30 champions getting nerfed or buffed and some even getting reworks.

How will the TFT Set 7 meta look in patch 12.12?

First, let’s look at the re-roll comps. Having comps you can play by just rolling and buying the same units is good for the game, as it gives new players some direction. However, this patch has been a little too much re-roll heavy, with multiple 1-cost comps and Assassin Olaf being the best overall one. So it is no surprise that most of these champions will get hit in some way or another. Ezreal, Nidalee and Sett are all getting nerfed either directly or by their items or traits. While you can still play these re-roll comps they will not be as guaranteed to perform as they are now.

Then there is the Olaf nerf. The set’s premier carry is due to some heavy nerfs, as big as 32 AD at three stars. Olaf with an Assassin Emblem is the best comp you can go to right now thanks to his synergy with Diana and the ease of getting Spatulas or Emblems. Despite the massive Olaf nerfs this comp should stay relevant as there are some significant bug fixes for Diana that should make her a better carry.

We will also see some buffs to less utilized champions and traits, one of those being Corki. While Corki and Revel had been strong at some points during the set, vertical Cannoneers didn’t feel that great to play. With some buffs to the trait and quality of life change to how Corki’s big rocket works, the Yordle can become the 4-cost carry once again.

The devs are also buffing the trait Legend and also Anivia and Volibear. Legends is in my opinion the most unique trait they put in the game but it wasn’t viable ever since the bugged, overpowered version of the PBE Volibear. With some well-deserved buffs, you can and should try out a comp centered around the Demi-gods of Freljord.

Last but not least, there are two exciting Dragon reworks for Daeja and Shyvana. While Daeja is a viable carry if you have the right Mirage, she never felt right as her ult wasn’t complimenting her playstyle. With these changes, the champion should feel much better to play, and you can also go full AP instead of attack speed. For Shyvana we have some changes to her second part of the ultimate. It also wasn’t a satisfying feeling seeing your 10-cost dropping aggro to drop into the enemy backline, breath fire and not do any damage. If the changes are enough Shyvana should be much better to play in 12.12, you can even put AP on her according to Mortdog.

The patch will go live on Wednesday, June 22 at 5 AM local time for most servers.
