DBLTAP Parent Minute Media Raises $40M in New Funding

Minute Media, a global publishing company and the parent behind esports content portal DBLTAP, has announced a new $40M round of funding.

The round included investors new and old, with newcomers including Hamilton Lane and Maor Investments. The company’s previous investors include Goldman Sachs, ProSieben, Battery Ventures, Dawn Capital, Vintage Investment Partners, Qumra Capital, and Gemini Israel Ventures.

DBLTAP is Minute Media’s esports editorial website, which covers games such as League of Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Database-Link-e1521645463907, and Overwatch Database-Link-e1521645463907 with editorial and video content. Other Minute Media properties include traditional sports website 12up and soccer-centric portal 90min.

“With the commercial momentum we’re experiencing as an organization, growing at 100% year-on-year, we’re purposely focusing investment on the deepening of our publisher product and tech offering—a part of our business that is rapidly expanding,” said Minute Media founder and CEO Asaf Peled, in a release. “Additionally, the new capital enables us to continue to be aggressive on the M&A front, constantly looking to acquire premium publishing brands across new content verticals and within new markets.”

This latest round brings the company’s total funding to $120M to date. The company previously announced a $17M funding round in May 2018 and a $15M round in February 2017. In April of that year, the company made its first steps into esports coverage.

Minute Media employs more than 200 people globally and recently acquired editorial website Mental Floss and traditional sports website The Big Lead. The company also licenses its publishing platform technology to publications such as USA Today and Sports Illustrated.
