The Call of Duty League is set to return this weekend after an extended hiatus due to concerns regarding the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). As announced last month, the league has canceled all home market live events for the season, and will move to an entirely online format.
In the new system, eight of the league’s 12 teams will compete in a tournament spanning three days of competition, eventually crowning a champion for that event. Each tournament will continue to award points to teams based on their performance, which accumulate throughout the overall season and impact each team’s position in competing for the eventual CDL Championship. Currently, there has been no information released regarding that championship event or whether it will take place in person or online.
Each online event will be presented by a team, with this weekend’s event “hosted” by the Envy Gaming-owned Dallas Empire, though all production will be handled by the league itself.
