BLAST Pro Series Introduces Season Format to Tournament Series, $500K Finals

The BLAST Pro Series will implement a season format across its 2019 event schedule.

The tournament circuit will award a $500K prize pool for its Global Finals in addition to the prize pool offered at each event.

Seven teams will compete in the inaugural season including Cloud9, Astralis, Team Liquid, and Natus Vincere.

has announced a new season format for its global Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament brand BLAST Pro Series. The 2019 season will consist of seven tournaments (retroactively including the Sao Paulo, Brazil, event from last month) along with a Global Final in December with a $500K USD prize pool, $350K of which will be awarded to the winning team. Each other tournament in the series will award a $250K prize pool, resulting in a $2M prize pool for the season.

Seven teams have been selected to compete in the inaugural season. Each team will compete in five of the seven tournaments, earning points to qualify for the Global Final. Each BLAST Pro Series event consists of six teams, meaning that every event will include a wildcard organization. The 2019 Season’s invited teams are as follows:

Locations for four tournaments in the series have been confirmed so far, with the remaining three yet to be announced, but scheduled to take place in September, October, and November, respectively.

Unlike League of Legends or Overwatch , Counter-Strike does not have an official professional league. As a result, multiple event-based circuits and leagues have been instituted throughout the game’s lifespan. ESL

currently operates its own Pro League across three regions – Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific.
