Bayes Esports Solutions, a joint venture between DOJO Madness and Sportradar, has launched its own independent esports data marketplace. Named BEDEX, the marketplace will allow game publishers and tournament organizers to sell in-game data to bookmakers, esports media, pro teams, and other analytics partners.
Speaking to The Esports Observer, Bayes CEO Martin Dachselt said all service providers in esports have the same problem: they only have access to a subset of the available data on the market. “You lose monetization potential. This is what we want to solve with our marketplace,” he said. “Everybody who wants to buy that data, who wants to have access to it, can connect to the marketplace and try to get a deal with the rights holders which offers the data. This is a fundamental change.”
For use of BEDEX, Bayes will have a technical fee—per event or data package—and a provision based on the contract volume on the markeplace. On top of its exclusive data partnership with League of Legends publisher Riot Games, Bayes has extended its agreement with ESL to include Counter-Strike: Global Offensive events from DreamHack and ESEA’s Mountain Dew League. Data for all of these will be immediately available on BEDEX.
“If you launch a marketplace, it’s important that you solve the chicken and egg problem,” said Dachselt. “We are in a good position to solve it because we have supply; the Riot, ESL, DreamHack data. We have the demand; we are interested to buy on the marketplace too, to deliver it to our bookmakers on the Betradar platform.” He noted that the infrastructure of the platform would be game-agnostic, and although Bayes would be a market participant on both sides, there is no requirement for a supplier to sell the data to them.
Dachselt explained that BEDEX was not only about monetization and building revenue streams from in-game data. In fact, the capability to parse data to other commercial partners was a key factor in Riot’s decision to partner with Bayes. “Especially for Riot, it’s important for them to be able to distribute data to sponsors, cooperation partners, and service providers who create visualizations.”
