North American organisation Pittsburgh Knights has received investment from Esports MX LATAM Fund, a group of investors based in Mexico.
Alongside the investment, a deal has been made that will see Esports MX LATAM launch an affiliated esports team in Mexico modeled on Pittsburgh Knights’ organisational framework.
The figure of the investment has not been disclosed at the time of writing. NFL team Pittsburgh Steelers invested in the organisation last December with an undisclosed fee, too.
James O’Connor, President of Pittsburgh Knights discussed the investment in a release: “There is a strong strategic alignment with the Esports MX LATAM Fund’s vision and our investment group’s plans. Partnering with Han and his investment partners in Mexico is another great step for the Knights as we grow our global footprint. We see the same dedication, loyalty, and zeal for sports there that we do in Pittsburgh. Mexico has a lot to offer in terms of talent and logistics that make this venture an ideal opportunity to build something special for both Mexican and global esports.”
Pittsburgh Knights, with the new-found investment and partnership, aims to expand its audience and present in Latin America. Esports MX LATAM Fund is a group a Mexico-based investors and family offices that operate within the media, entertainment, and finance industries.
Mark Alazaraki, CEO of Alazraki Networks also commented: “We are pleased to work with the Pittsburgh Knights as their partners, alongside the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have one of the top recognized American football brands in Mexico, and Wiz Khalifa, a globally recognized creative artist. The Knights have proven that they can grow and scale a professional esports organization working with established industry partners and a professional sports organization with much success that will be attractive to our investors who are exploring opportunities to invest in the Mexican esports scene.”
In July, Pittsburgh Knights entered a strategic partnership with Pittsburgh-native rapper Wiz Khalifa. The organisation is also partnered with Zoomph, SmileDirectClub, Sheetz, HyperX, ReplayFX, and Totino’s.
Esports Insider says: It’s clear that Pittsburgh Knights has grand ambitions with this particular investment and deal. While we’re not sure just how well the affiliated team will be received – will it be named Mexico Knights? – the investment will likely help the organisation with its footprint in Latin America.
