FIFA has announced that the FIFA eWorld Cup will return to London in August after playing host to last year’s final.
Taking place from August 2nd-4th, the FIFA eWorld Cup finals will once again be hosted at The O2.
The event will see 32 of the world’s best FIFA 19 players go head-to-head; the finalists will be determined by the FIFA 19 Global Series Playoffs, ending July 14th.
Christian Volk, Director of eFootball & Gaming at FIFA discussed the finals: “After the incredible success of the tournament last year at The O2 in London, we are excited to once again host the FIFA eWorld Cup at such an iconic venue and to create a one-of-a-kind EA SPORTS FIFA event for the community. With the increased prize money and a world title on the line, the tension will be higher than ever before and will create an incredible atmosphere.
”This season, we have seen a great appetite for content consumption of the EA SPORTS FIFA 19 Global Series and we are excited to give more fans the chance to witness the greatest competitive FIFA event to date either on-site or at home, as we crown the ultimate champion at The O2 after an exciting season.”
This year’s winner will take home $250,000 (£200,265) in prize money, along with a trip to The Best FIFA Football Awards. Additionally, the total prize pool for the FIFA eWorld Cup has been increased compared to last year’s final, with a total of $500,000 (£400,530) being distributed among the competitors.
In April, American broadcaster Fox Sports announced that it had secured the television and streaming rights to the finals of multiple FIFA 19 esports events. Social broadcasting platform Caffeine also secured global streaming rights to all events.
Esports Insider says: It’s clear to see that the FIFA eWorld Cup has found its home in London. With an increased prize pool for 2019, we have no doubt that the final will be one to watch for all kinds of football fans.
