Europe-based esports organisation Team Secret has made a key hire in the form of John Costas, who joins in the role of Vice Chairman, Strategy & Finance.
Costas’ role will see him “focus on advancing initiatives”, aiming on growing the business and achieving “new frontiers in the industry”.
John Yao, CEO of Team Secret discussed the hire: “John is someone that I respect tremendously – the addition of his passion, intelligence, and experience marks the next stage in Team Secret’s growth, and we look forward to an exciting future together.”
Costas is the former Chairman and CEO of UBS Investment Bank, overseeing the bank’s investment banking franchise in the United States. He also acted as Chairman and CEO of Dillon Read Capital Management, a trading unit of UBS. More recently, he is the Managing Member of private investment firm Costas Family Holdings.
For 2019, the organisation adopted a plan with the aim of growing the organisation through new titles. So far, it has expanded its Fortnite roster and is advertising for players that compete in Apex Legends.
Team Secret is partnered with CORSAIR, Uwin, Secretlab, NVIDIA, Meta Threads, and Twitch, and competes in Dota 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, and Fortnite.
Esports Insider says: Team Secret is quietly working on thrusting itself into the limelight in esports through a number of initiatives, and making a hire such as this could well help with that. Costas obviously has a wealth of experience outside of esports so it’ll be interesting to see what he does from within the industry.
