The European division of the Rocket League Spring Series will be broadcasted online from the BBC Sport website, app, and iPlayer. The final two days of competition will take place from May 9-10, with competing teams including reigning Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) Europe champions Dignitas, as well as the esports division of FC Barcelona, and Renault Vitality

Financial terms of the broadcast deal were not disclosed.

Rocket League is one of the most exciting esports in the gaming world and to have the European Spring Series live on the BBC’s digital platforms is something we’re really pleased to be able to offer, especially for our younger audiences,” Ben Gallop, BBC Sport head of digital, said.

The near-global shutdown of sports due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has seen more esports content spread to traditional media companies. This is not the first time the BBC has showcased esports; the publicly funded broadcaster previously hosted the League of Legends World Championship quarter-finals on BBC Sport in 2015, and ran the Gfinity Elite Series on BBC Three.
