Today the NBA 2K League announced that it will commence on May 5, 2020, starting with six weeks of remote play. All 23 NBA 2K League teams will play regular-season games online from their geographical markets with games simulcast live on both Twitch and YouTube. The league was originally slated to start on March, 24, but was postponed due to concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)
Games will be played starting at 7 p.m. EST each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each of the league’s teams is scheduled to play at least eight games that will count toward the regular-season’s standings. A best-of-three format will be used allowing the NBA 2K League to switch between games in real-time. Each three-game-series victory will represent one regular-season win.
There will be three in-season tournaments taking place in the 2020 season, THE TIPOFF, THE TURN, and THE TICKET. All 23 teams will compete in THE TIPOFF and THE TURN. The 14 teams that are not one of the top nine playoff seeds will compete in THE TICKET, which sees the winning team earn the 10th and final spot in the 2020 NBA 2K League Playoffs.
