Spacestation Gaming is expanding into the world of sim racing by announcing today a new team that will compete in iRacing with NASCAR driver Will Rodgers as its first signing.
The Utah-based organization says that Rodgers will compete with a Spaceship-branded car in the annual NASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series as well as in the special temporary invitational events going on right now amid the coronavirus pandemic like the NASCAR Pro Invitational Series.
Rodgers competes in NASCAR’s second-tier Xfinity Series in real life currently. Spacestation competes in the Rocket League Championship Series and Rainbow Six among other titles.
Spacestation’s Shaun “Shoduras” McBride said in a prepared statement, “Traditional sports and esports can be incredibly similar, and eNascar proves that perfectly. Spacestation Gaming is excited to help build this new community and be longterm supporters of this rapidly growing scene.”
This comes after Spacestation recently partnered with Hot Wheels and launched a car to be sold in several major North American retailers as part of a collaboration with YouTube personality Tanner Fox, a part-owner in Spacestation Gaming.
The Pro Invitational Series is off to a hot start after two races, averaging 903,000 viewers on FS1 the first weekend and 1.339 million viewers on Fox and FS1 last weekend. The next event is tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm ET from virtual Bristol Motor Speedway, again on Fox and FS1.
Spacestation co-Founder Sean Holladay added, “This partnership is exciting coming into this scene as an Esports organization fanbase with a legacy brand and fanbase like NASCAR. Showcasing Esports to a more mainstream audience and educating NASCAR fans is something we are really looking forward to.”
