10 Rarest Fortnite Skins and 6 That Are Never Coming Back

by Ashley

Fortnite has no shortage of skins. It’s become pretty much the thing the game is known for, having a roster of crazy characters, both unique and from across pop culture, fighting it out on the island. Players can show up as Goku in a squad with superheroes and a giant banana. With so many different skins, though, players have come to see them as a bit of a status symbol. The rarest Fortnite skins mark you out in each lobby.

The rarest skins in Fortnite might not necessarily be the coolest or those that are from your favorite franchise outside of Fortnite. However, they are a mark of experience or some other achievement for a lot of players in the game. If you run into one of the rarest Fortnite skins when you’re playing, you know that player has made some major commitment to get there.

The rarest skins in Fortnite Chapter 4 aren’t the rarest in Chapter 2 or 1. Epic adds skins all the time. Usually, these are cosmetics anyone can grab. However, sometimes Epic has to remove the skin, which means it isn’t coming back. That can make even new skins rarer over time.

We’re going to run through all of the Fortnite Chapter 4 rarest skins. The looks you can wear in-game to make sure every player is getting their head turned when you show up.

Rarest Fortnite Skins

10. Royale Bomber

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Royal Bomber

The Royal Bomber skin is a look in Fortnite that was part of a special event with PlayStation. Players could unlock it by buying a Fortnite branded PS4 bundle. Most people aren’t going to be buying a games console just for a Fortnite skin. Even the scalpers who were selling on the PS4 to sell the code had a high price for grabbing the skin itself.

Since the Royale bomber was part of a limited tie-in, we’re unlikely to see it return. It’s not the most interesting looking. However, this is definitely one of the rarest Fortnite skins.

9. The Reaper

Rarest Fortnite Skins - The Reaper

The Reaper is a particularly iconic Fortnite skin. But despite its popularity, it’s actually still one of the rarest skins in Fortnite Chapter 4!

This skin was part of the Fortnite Season 1 Battle Pass. Coming this long ago clearly means that it’s rarer than the current Battle Pass looks. Very few of the current Fortnite player base were actually playing back then. This means there aren’t that many that are active or even still in the game. There might be plenty of Reapers sitting around in old accounts, not even being used! There are a few other reasons the skin is notable and rare, though.

For a long time, this skin was known as John Wick. Basically, everyone called it that. Eventually, Fortnite got its own real John Wick. A Fortnite crossover skin brought him into the game proper. This has made the Reaper a bit redundant. However, a lot of people still appreciate the original Fortnite version of the skin over the official one.

The John Wick skin has come back quite a few times. Although as a Battle Pass skin, the Reaper can never return.

8. Honor Guard

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Honor Guard

This is another skin that is a bit hard to get, thanks to a tie-in deal. This one was released alongside the Honor View 20 phone. Do you decide which smartphone to buy based on a Fortnite skin? That’s basically what you had to do to get this skin.

The Honor Guard skin is definitely one of Fortnite rarest skins but also the most expensive. If you really wanted to grab this skin, it would have cost a lot more than even the pricier item shop picks. Some players likely managed to pick up codes from those who bought a phone without a need for a Fortnite skin. You’re not going to see it very much at all though.

7. Double Helix

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Double Helix

Our next rarest Fortnite skin is the Double Helix, another that was bundled with an expensive electronic. This one came from buying a Nintendo Switch bundle that had the Fortnite skin included. The bundle had a DLC code for the skin and some V-Bucks, but you still had to buy a Switch with it to get this skin.

This one is definitely on the rarer side. The bundle isn’t available anymore, so it might not ever be coming back. This makes it one of the rarer skins. Although, you may see it in more lobbies on Switch than on other platforms.

6. Black Knight

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Black Knight

The Black Knight Skin is an entry coming in pretty high that was available through the normal game. It’s the age of this skin that has made it one of the rarest though. This skin was part of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass. While it’s Season 2, this was the very first Battle Pass in the game.

Players head to get pretty much to the top of the Battle Pass if they wanted to unlock the black Knight. The player base was smaller, and no one knew that Fortnite would persevere in such a way that these skins would be worth grinding for this many years later. This means the odds of running into a Black Knight is really pretty low. It’s one of the rarest Fortnite skins. While some on this list mean that a player spent a lot, this one is clearly something that marks you as a dedicated and early player of the game.

5. Infiltrator

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Infiltrator

Infiltrator is one of the oldest Fortnite skins. This was added in during season 1 of Chapter 1. As with most for this season, that has made it ultra-rare for quite a long time. However, while Epic has brought other Season 1 skins back, this one hasn’t been seen in quite a while. It’s currently been missing since August 1 2019. It doesn’t look likely to come back anytime soon. This one shows that you’re an OG if you have it kicking around in your wardrobe.

4. Renegade Raider

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Renegade Rider

Renegade Raiser was one of the first skins in Fortnite and for a while, it occupied the top spot on any rarest Fortnite skins list. It was available in Season 1. Players had to max out their level and spend V-Bucks to get it. In those early days, very few bothered with something like that. However, this one has made it back here and there. That’s definitely hurt how rare the skin is, but it’s still in one of the rarest Fortnite skins.

3. Special Forces

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Special Forces

Special Forces is another skin that hails from the earliest days of Fortnite. this one first appeared in Chapter 1 Season 1! It’s one of the oldest skins in Fortnite. This one has come back once, it was briefly available again in January 2019. However, it hasn’t come back since. With only two tiny windows to actually pick it up, Special Forces has definitely risen up the list of the rarest Fortnite skins.

This skin was originally available for 1,200 V-Bucks. It’s not the most interesting out of skins with that level of asking price. The early skins were before Fortnite really went into all of the crazy looks. These early ones are almost close to a default.

It hasn’t been a part of the store for a while, but Special Forces has been around in a few ways. He was an NPC on the map in Chapter 2 Season 7 which at least made it one that players got to see quite a bit more.

2. Galaxy

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Galaxy

The Galaxy skin is definitely one of the rarest Fortnite skins. This one is yet another that came with a Smartphone but one that’s got quite the reputation for its huge price tag. It was available as part of a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 or Galaxy Tab S4 purchase. Players had to go in on a pretty big commitment just to get the Galaxy skin.

Unlike some of the others here, this one isn’t even available in the bundle anymore. It got replaced with the similar Glow skin only a little after the time it was introduced. This means everyone is completely locked out of Galaxy. Using this is a real way to showboat in your lobby. Those who recognise it know exactly what players had to do to get it.

1. Aerial Assault TrooperRarest Fortnite Skins - Aerial Assault Trooper

The Aerial Assault Trooper is another skin that occupies the rarest slot thanks to how old it is. You had to grab this skin in Season 1 Chapter 1. It had both a level requirement and a V-Buck requirement. It looks a lot like a default, though, which might be why so few players bought it. This has all made the Aerial Assault Trooper one of the rarest Fortnite skins. Very few players see this one around all that much.

The 6 Fortnite Skins That Aren’t Coming back

Those are the ten rarest skins that you actually had a chance at getting. Most hail all the way back to Chapter 1, and often earlier in Chapter 1 when the player base was a lot smaller. What about the rare skins from more recently, though? While more people may have these in their lockers, these are skins that can never ever come back. These will get nothing but rarer over time.

Here there are skins that weren’t even available properly in the first place or never will be again. Some of these were only ever available in a few cases handed out to content creators, but they basically didn’t leave the factory floor. Some of these skins are essentially straight out of Epic vault!

These are the top Fortnite skins that might come from newer seasons, but can’t come back. Some of them have more unique stories to their rarities too.

1. Stranger Things Skins

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Stranger Things

This is an odd one to pick here given how popular the show is, but these skins don’t ever seem to be coming back. Epic did this Stranger Things crossover in one of their early days of bringing in other characters. However, there must have been a problem.

These skins haven’t returned. Not when the show came back, not for other promotions, not even when Epic held events based around a clear Upside-Down clone The Sideways. For some reason, Epic is no longer working with Netflix on Fortnite skins. We’re not going to see these make a return unless there’s a major change of direction. It probably isn’t going to happen. It might have something to do with the more adult tone the show has taken, but Fortnite has crossed over with more adult franchises than this.

2. Will Smith

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Will Smith Skin

A Will Smith skin was included as part of a movie tie-in. This one also seems to have been permanently vaulted after the incident at the 2022 Academy Awards. Just a day after this incident, one player got a big creative on creative on Ninja’s stream. This kind of thing is probably why Epic has it locked away.

3. Black Widow

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Black Widow

This is a stranger pick for the Rarest Fortnite skins. It’s part of the Fortnite Marvel crossover skins, one of many. It’s a Black Widow outfit. Stuff from Chapter 2 isn’t exactly a long time ago, but for some reason, the Black Widow skin just isn’t coming back. It hasn’t been seen since May 2019. Other Marvel content has come back. For whatever reason, though, this one isn’t.

This skin was modelled after one of the outfits worn in a Black Widow movie. That might have something to do with why it’s not coming back.

A lot of players have theories on why the Black Widow skin is missing. Presumably, it’s some sort of rights issue keeping the skin from returning. For whatever reason, though, it’s become one of the rarest Fortnite skins.

4. Travis Scott Skins

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Travis Scott

Travis Scott is another real person that has been vaulted from Fortnite after an incident. While he was the first musician to perform a live set in Fortnite, he was also the headline event at Travis Scott’s Astroworld. That was where a number of attendees died or were injured in a large crowd crush. Epic is probably not going to be bringing the musician back to the game after this incident.

5. Plague Skins

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Plague Doctor

These are two 2018 skins that have never come back to the item shop for a simple reason, they’re linked to the Black Death. They depict plague doctors. After the COVID-19 pandemic shut things down, Epic hasn’t featured them since due to the link between pandemics from life-threatening diseases. This one is probably a simple sensitivity reason. Epic likes to avoid skins that could cause controversy or offence to players.

6. The Other Referee Skin

Rarest Fortnite Skins - Referee Skin

This one is a weird one, but it might be the rarest skin in Fortnite for the last few years. Fortnite has hosted a few NFL crossovers. They release different team or colored outfits for players, and a referee to go along with them. For the second one, Epic made a new referee skin. They then gave this for free to some content creators early to promote the NFL skins.

When the time came actually to release them, though, Epic decided it was too close to the existing skin and abandoned this new referee skin. Outside of content creator wardrobes, this one is locked away forever!

Those are some of the rarest skins in Fortnite. Epic brings things back even after long absences though, so keep an eye out. One of the skins you own could end up being one of the rarest skins in Fortnite.
