Czech player Marketa Vondrousova will try to improve on her recent results. She has been struggling on tour for a number of months now as she enters the 2024 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California. Vondrousova will face Bernarda Pera at the event, in what will be a second-round match in the tournament. My Vondrousova vs Pera prediction is that the former player will cover a -4.5 game handicap in the match.

Marketa Vondrousova vs Bernarda Pera Head-to-Head Series
The Vondrousova vs Pera h2h is 0-1 in favor of the latter player. But the only time they met was in a 2018 match, a result that is now over six years old. Pera won a match in Dubai qualifying at what was a different time in each player’s career. The result was on the hardcourt surface, however, it can be set aside due to how long ago it was.

Marketa Vondrousova’s Recent Tennis Results
Vondrousova won Wimbledon last season and she was also a factor in the 2023 US Open. But since the end of the Flushing Meadows draw, Vondrousova has rarely been a factor in a tournament. She did show some signs of posting stronger results in Dubai a couple of weeks ago. She beat Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets to make the quarterfinals of that draw. But, priced as a favorite, she lost to Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in a three-set match.
Bernarda Pera’s Recent Tennis Results
Pera was in the qualifying draw this week in Indian Wells. Including her first-round match in the main draw, the American has already played nine sets of tennis in recent days. She has also played four sets that have either gone to a 7-5 or a 7-6 result, meaning she has played some tiring sets. That has all been just to make the second round in Indian Wells. Pera has not been much of a main draw guru this season with first or second-round exits in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne Park, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Dubai.
Vondrousova vs Pera Prediction: Vondrousova -4.5 games
Vondrousova has been priced at -400 to win this contest (bet365). I think one factor in that betting line is that Pera went 1-12 on aces to double faults in the last round. She was very fortunate to advance, noting that her opponent also served poorly, going 2-13 from the same perspective.
Vondrousova has had her share of double faults in recent matches as well. The upcoming match has the makings of a sloppy contest.
I would be betting against Pera in this case. To address all of her recent double faults, I think she might take some pace off of her serve. That, in turn, could make the match into a bit of a track meet as it will favor rallying. With Pera probably already tired as she plays her fourth match in recent days, Vondrousova’s edge in fatigue looms large in this match. She has rested for two weeks since her last contest. I recommend taking her to cover -4.5 for a game handicap as I think this match should be one-sided.
