Age of Empires is one of the oldest games not only within its genre, but in the entire gaming universe. As of recently thanks to several remasters it has come from its shadow to provide a well made RTS experience.
Red Bull and Microsoft have partnered to bring its esports scene back to the spotlight, with a huge tournament called “Red Bull Wololo”. When i say huge i really mean it, as this tournament is held in an ancient german fortress in Heidelberg and its prize pool matches the biggest tournaments on the scene with 550.000$ to take.
Age of Empires is extremely fast paced and awesome to watch, as the strategies change within seconds, this making each game quite unique. Age of Empires I: Definitive Edition, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, and Age of Empires IV are involved within the tournament.
Previous smaller Red Bull circuits are the qualification towards this event, including the ongoing “The Resurgence Tournament”. Well known players have been invited or qualified to the main tournament such as: Gan “Mr Yo” Yangfan , Kai “Liereyy” Kallinger , and Age of Empire II most decorated player ever in Ørjan “TheViper” Larsen. As you can see there isn’t a shortage of veterans in the event, who will be challenged by newly made players with modern strategies. A further eight players will enter via two Red Bull qualifiers in August.
Red Bull published on May 19: “Long live the king! After an incredibly successful 2021 event circuit, we’re proud to announce that Red Bull Wololo is coming back for its sixth tournament, returning bigger and better than ever. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Age of Empires series, we’ve partnered with Microsoft to create the biggest tournament to date. Three titles to prove yourself in, countless opportunities to watch your idols and a LAN final for the ages – are you ready?”
This will be definitely an exciting shake up for the AoE scene, stay put for further news on the event.
