Why a Misfit Millionaire Sacrificed His Ferrari to Esports' First God

by devaccess

These days, esports’ biggest players are basically nerdy rockstars.

They’re wearing thousand dollar shoes, driving flashy sports cars and even starring in overly obnoxious Doritos commercials. But long before then, in a prehistoric era, there was one, original superstar gamer. A trailblazing, ground-breaking neckbeard who not only made hundreds of thousands of dollars and won luxurious prizes – but ended up changing the way we play games forever.

If you weren't getting a big cheque for winning an esports event, what would you want the prize to be?

Did you really decide to cover Thresh before Johnathan Wendel? Fatal1ty was arguably more impactful in terms of inspiring other players back then than Thresh, who I felt was more concerned with brand than the effects he had on other players.

Holy crap, imagine being the guy who popularized 'wasd'. That's been such a staple for me in playing online games, I never guessed some guy came up with it, I always thought it was just something designers figured out was more comfortable for left-handed playing.
