WePlay! reveals participants for Tug of War: Dire

by Adam Fitch

WePlay! eSports Newmedia Group is gearing up to host the second event in its Dota 2 series, Tug of War, starting May 28th.

With a total prize pool of $300,000 (£236,910), Tug of War: Dire will bring together 24 teams from across the Americas and Asia to compete in two separate single elimination brackets.

The format of the event is unconventional when compared to other Dota 2 events – and events across other titles, too – in that there will be two teams declared winners. Each of the series will be best-of-three leading up to the grand final, which will be a best-of-five.

The teams that will take part in the event include are as follows:

South America: Infamous, paiN Gaming, Gorillaz Pride, SKOL, Thunder Predator, FreeStyle.

North America: J.Storm, Team Xolotl, Vega Academy, beastcoast, Black Sheet, TBA.

Southeast Asia: Mineski, Neon Esports, Geek Fam, EVOS Esports, Bood ID,  TBA.

China: EHOME, Royal Never Give Up, Invictus Gaming, Royal, Team Serenity, Newbee.

The winner from each bracket will receive a slot in the LAN final for Tug of War: Mad Moon, another event with a $300,000 (£236,910) prize purse. Eight teams will make it to Mad Moon, with the Asian and American winners joining Ninjas in Pyjamas and five squads that receive direct invitations.

Esports Insider says: WePlay! certainly isn’t afraid to try something new and make it worthwhile for the teams that get involved, putting up considerable prize winnings in each of the events. How the events are received by both the players and the fans is the real test, however.
