“Washed-Up”: Why Your Favorite Esports Player Should Probably Retire | OverExplained

by devaccess

We’ve all said it or seen it online – a pro player being labeled “washed-up. It’s an expression that goes back to the 1920s, used to describe an individual who literally washed their hands after completing a job. But eventually, it became a way of criticizing perceived “has-beens” in show-business, sports and later esports.

What do you guys think? Are esports fans far too quick to cast players aside? Also, who are some other players that you think communities have wrongly labeled "washed"? Let us know what you think!

I think one of the biggest problems is diary and making actualy real sport for fitness….a lot of esport gamers are not taking care to their body, sitting all day long not doing something else for the brain except gaming, not making real sport not eating healthy food and a lot such things….A human beeing needs a balanced life thats why astralis is the first cs go team ever went full professional even with all supporterd.

Sometimes it takes getting off what you are working on, and taking a break and just do a background think of what you need to do, to get yourself better.

I'm 30 now, and I feel like I am as good as I ever was. At least if you consider me having a job now. If I had the hours I used to play, I would be doing 360 no scopes all day. Now, just once or twice a day. Lol

maybe they dont perform every game the same, cause they are humans? and you gold nova kids spam, and listen to the chat when he gets an ace hes a god, when he just dies and the play doesnt work out, hes a bot. result oriented thinking is most of your guys problem.

2015 early esports? esports with big tournaments started in 1998 my friend. world cyber games for example was one of the first big international tournaments and afair the last wcg was in 2011? (big sponsor names, couple hundret k price pool bla bla bla)
2015 is maybe the year that YOU think is early but it really isnt.

i think there is this myth we have in gaming. where by the time you are 30 its too late to be good at anything when it comes to games. the nice thing about games, age only starts being a problem much later in life and even then with the right lifestyle you can keep reaction time and memory. being washed up is a state of mind and once it gets in your head you might as well quit

Reply
PippTheKid December 27, 2019 - 10:40 am

the thing with sports and why i think people can keep going at such a older age is enhancement drugs. Its defntley not all of them and not nearly the only factor but i think it is a thing to discuss about.

I used to play from 8am till I go to sleep at around 3am every single day. My reaction time started slipping when I was around 24-25 and now my reaction time is around double what it use to be and after a hour of competitive play my wrist and fingers hurt. The docs also say I have knuckles like a 80 year old man caused from my gaming
