Ultima’s Lord British Is Making a NFT Game?

by William B

There are only a few MMOs with a more popular name than Ultima, and a few games designers with a name more legendary than Lord British. But now, Richard Garriott and the Ultima producer Todd Porter take their names and MMO knowledge into the metaverse.

DeHorizon, developer behind derivation-based multiplayer RPG DeVerse, has announced that it’s now creating a new studio called DeMeta. Richard “Lord British”, Garriott and Todd Porter are going to co-lead the studio and create a new computerized milliard scale.

“In 1997 my team at Origin published the first single-player online game,” stated Garriott. With the first attempt at acquiring a new product, users created a genre which has continued to grow for over 25 years. We’re trying to have that magic forever to be used to newer fashions.”

Garriott kept telling the story short but it didn’t matter if it was to be an MMO and that DeMeta has made “significant hires in recent months.” DeHorizon is already a team of industry veterans from R&D and Blizzard, with teams tackling the dragons and wild beasts of the DeMythical and sci-fi battle royale shooter DeTournament. All of these games are built on the Ethereum blockchain.

“Ultima has an enormous fanbase of 25+ million players,” said Porter. “Our mission is to bring MMOs to the next level, providing that huge fan base the chance to help build our next title, and to shape the next version of RPG as that of Richard and I in the past.”

The metaverse finds out that deMeta’s founding is a strange time. While companies invest millions in NFT and crypto-backed games, many have found that their audience and blockchain games with success are suffering from falling player counts. It comes after months of public outcry against NFTs that have led to a drop in sales volume and prices on NFT markets.
