As part of the deal, TyC Sports will broadcast BLAST Premier qualifiers, series, showdowns, and finals across its digital platforms – including TyC Sports Play and special Player One programs.

BLAST Premier will be conducted online for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with its Spring Showdown and Final being played during June.

Media right deals have been rife in esports, especially with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, in the past year. In addition to TyC Sports, BLAST has also sold regional broadcast rights for BLAST Premier to the likes of DAZN, TV 2 Denmark, Winstrike, RTP, and ES1.

ESL has ramped up its media right activities with the formation of the ESL Pro Tour alongside DreamHack. Region-specific broadcast rights agreements for the circuit have been established with TV2 Denmark, Maincast, ProSiebenSat.1, Telia Finland, TV 2 Norway, and Polsat Games.

Esports Insider says: We’re enjoying seeing media rights deals becoming more prevalent in esports, as the industry struggles with monetisation and profitability. BLAST and ESL are seemingly leading the charge on this front, alongside Riot Games with League of Legends esports.
