  • The news comes following DEAD OR ALIVE’s exclusion from EVO, the biggest tournament for fighting games.

Game publisher Team Ninja has released details for a DEAD OR ALIVE 6 World Championship this year including regional qualifiers and a finals event in Japan featuring a prize pool of $90K USD.

The international qualification process begins April 20 at THE MIXUP in Lyon, France, and a series of tournaments throughout the calendar year will help solidify a 16-player grand finale event.

No details regarding a venue for the World Championship in Japan were revealed, but players will earn points toward an overall leaderboard at different events. The U.S., Asia, and Europe will each have their own leaderboard, and the top five from the U.S. and top three from Asia and Europe each will qualify for the grand finale.

Five other spots in the World Championship event will be awarded to winners of offline Fatal Match events and a DOA6WC Last Chance Qualifier event at the DEAD OE ALIVE Festival.

This circuit’s organization comes following an announcement by EVO, the premier event for fighting games, revealing its nine-game roster for 2019 competition—a roster that did not include DOA6. That announcement was made just before DOA6’s official release on March 1.
