  • Riot Games has overtaken Epic Games as the most-watched publisher on Twitch for Q2 2019.
  • Twitch remains the top streaming platform in terms of viewership but experienced a 10% decline compared to Q1.
  • YouTube Gaming Live has the highest average viewer per channel compared to other major platforms.

Twitch Database-Link-e1521645463907 experienced its first decline in growth in Q2 2019, according to a joint report published by Streamlabs and Newzoo Database-Link-e1521645463907. The “Streamlabs Q2 2019 Live Streaming Industry Report” hypothesized that Twitch’s growth and recent decline were directly linked to viewership activity for Epic Games’ Database-Link-e1521645463907 Fortnite Database-Link-e1521645463907 battle royale game.

Users watched 55 million fewer hours of content on Twitch during the second quarter, a 2% decrease from Q1 to 2.7B, according to the report. Twitch also experienced a drop in new streamer channels during the quarter, adding 4.8M —nearly 1M fewer than in Q1.

Fortnite propelled Twitch and the platform reached all-time highs because of it,” noted the report. “Now that we are seeing growth for both decline, there is an opportunity for a new game to step in, become the next Fornite and once again spur the growth of streaming platforms and the industry.”

While Fortnite remained the most-viewed game on Twitch, combined viewership of League of Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907 and its new Teamfight Tactics mode propelled Riot Games Database-Link-e1521645463907 to the top publisher spot in Q2 2019.

YouTube Gaming experienced an all-time high for hours watched, growing 10% to 702M while Mixer exploded 357% to 119M hours watched.

Newcomer DLive is reaping the benefits of becoming the exclusive streaming platform for Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg. According to a press release cited by Newzoo, 34.2M hours of content were watched on DLive in Q2.

On Twitch, streaming dropped 10% from the previous quarter to 95M hours while time streamed on YouTube Gaming increased 4% in Q2 to 13.2M hours. Streaming increased 43% on Mixer, reaching 12M hours in Q2. By comparison, DLive reported hosting 3.2M hours.

Twitch’s average concurrent viewers (CCV) also decreased 3% from last quarter to 1.24M CCV. YouTube Gaming and Mixer CCV increased in Q2 to 323K  and 55K, respectively. DLive did not report average CCV for Q2.

YouTube Gaming Live has the highest average viewer per channel compared to other major platforms, Newzoo observed, averaging about 53 viewers per channel. This is a 6% increase from Q1.

Average viewers per channel increased by 9.47% in Q2 on Twitch, reaching 28.6 viewers each. About 1.97M channels streamed to the Mixer platform in Q2, a 37% increase quarter-over-quarter. Mixer maintains an average of 10 viewers per channel, while DLive reports an average of 11 viewers per stream.

Finally, mobile streaming has increased by 16% since last quarter and more than doubled its users year-over-year, according to the report. This trend, Streamlabs asserts, is being driven in part by “Just Chatting” sessions during which streamers converse with their audiences.
