While most major esports have returned to live, international events for their biggest tournaments, Rocket League hosted two separate regional championships over the weekend. Valorant also breached the Top Five thanks to growing excitement for a new content update.

Twitch’s Top Channel – xQc

Rocket League has flirted with the fringes of Tier One esports status for years, and this week the game supplanted all other titles due to the viewership of its RLCS X North America and Europe championships. Both regions concluded their tournaments over the weekend with broadcasts on the main Rocket League Twitch channel. The collective viewership was enough to push Rocket League’s main channel to second place this week, generating 4.01 million hours watched.

The event was also a positive note for NRG Esports and its recent Rocket League naming rights deal with auto insurance company The General. The General NRG took home first place in the North American competition.

Twitch’s Top Content – Just Chatting

Valorant jumped up four spots this week due in part to the announcement of a new character and content update. While the game is nowhere near challenging its older sister in League of Legends, it has retained a stable position in the Top 10 for some time, buoyed by the success of its recent esports championship.

Given its astronomical pre-launch viewership numbers, some may consider Valorant’s current status as a disappointment or worrying sign for the title, but Riot’s commitment to content and esports indicates that growth may well still be in the future for the company’s first foray into the shooter genre. As the large-scale collaboration meta has become the domain of Grand Theft Auto Roleplay, many popular streamers who chose not to move into that realm have incorporated Valorant into their content schedule, including leading female streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anis.
