  • The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Circuit will span eight events from October until June 2020.
  • This is the first official circuit-style collaboration between Nintendo of Europe and DreamHack, which will host three of the competitions including the grand finals.
  • Given Nintendo’s esports history, the competitions will likely not have a developer-funded cash prize pool.

Nintendo of Europe and DreamHack will collaborate for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate European Circuit, a series of official tournaments to crown a regional champion.

The series will span eight events from October until June 2020, with November’s DreamHack Winter 2019 in Sweden, January’s DreamHack Leipzig 2020 in Germany, and June’s DreamHack Summer in Sweden anchoring the schedule. The grand finals will be held at DreamHack Summer.

The other events are October’s Syndicate 2019 in the Netherlands, January’s Valhalla III in Denmark, March’s Tech Republic V in Spain, and May’s Icarus VI in Italy and Stunfest in France.

Many previous DreamHack events have featured Super Smash Bros. tournaments, but the Ultimate European Circuit is the first time that Nintendo of Europe has been officially involved with DreamHack as a collaborator on a circuit-style event. Nintendo’s move may help grow what has typically been an under-supported region for the Smash community relative to North America.

No prize pool has been announced, but Nintendo’s official tournaments (such as the Nintendo World Championship) typically do not have cash prizing.
