The funding will be used to complete game development on META Games’ MOBA esports title, RIVALS Esports Manager.

Roman Frank, CEO & Founder of META Games discussed the funding in a release: “We believe esports fans deserve authentic and complementary gaming experiences that reflect what they watch every day. By providing players with the ability to manage a professional team they are able to get a behind-the-scenes look at how some of their favourite teams operate on their path to success.”

RIVALS Esports Manager gives players the chance to operate their own esports team in an attempt to find glory. The game allows the player to own the team, compete in leagues, trade players, upgrade their roster and facilities, and create a legacy for their virtual superstars. The game will use the MOBA genre as its core theme.

Malte Barth, Founding Partner of BITKRAFT also spoke on the investment: “By having the most popular PC esports game genres in the palm of their hand, players now have the excitement of a pro esports coach in a snack-size, on-the-go experience. Similar to traditional sports, each esports genre is distinct and has its own unique fanbase which is why META Games’ vision to bring esports-themed games to these diverse, loyal audiences is extremely necessary. We believe with this funding this strong, proven team can continue its momentum of developing mobile games that address the entire audience of esports fans worldwide.”

META Games will also attribute some of the capital to develop future titles. The company’s aim is to ‘make it possible for fans to engage with the specific esport and genre they are most passionate about.”

Esports Insider says: With the meta nature of video games about video games aside, META Games has secured funding to release its title into the world. Whilst it’s early days on the project, the success of games such as Football Manager do point to a level of appeal for this genre.
