Fans disappointed with CS:GO’s 20th anniversary

by eSportsJunkie Staff

The 20th-anniversary patch of the CS:GO brought a Dust 2 grade, an AUG nerf, and even a few chickens. But for many CS:GO fans this wasn’t enough.

On the forum, one Reddit user debated why the 20th anniversary event was not very successful, and one day ago he had over 1,5k upvotes and 520 posts, most of them in line with the original poster.

“When it was a year-long event, I looked forward to CS20 where the Valve will work with us, maybe give us some free goodies and enjoy the entire event by showing love to their player base.

We explained the reasoning behind the let down and suggested the reworked Cache was the only free content. Anything else, from fresh skins to the classic 1.6 blade, which came with the patch was not readily available.

“I won’t lie, the latest skins are hella good. But for most players who don’t have a larger budget,[ they] will never see these skins in their pockets,” they went on. “What makes my equipment particularly sniffer is the knife, a classic knife, and what was nostalgic from 1.6 was brought back to GO… as cash collection. It’s rather disturbing how they converted this nostalgic knife into a skin that much of the player base would never get caught up with because of case RNG or just pricing.”

“It’s really upsetting to see such a landmark getting almost thrown away,” they said.
But a few CSGO fans felt it was a bit to a business like Valve who doesn’t normally do anything like this. Valve is the underwhelming CS20 case.

“You’ve listed three games, but in reality almost every online game, still actively being developed, has better celebrations than this. Even Fortnite had possibly their biggest BR update of all time, and I don’t think that was even their birthday? Just celebrating 10 seasons by making a second ‘chapter.’”

The original poster highlighted a variety of other games that commemorate anniversaries, including League of Legends, which offers each day an element to mark the tenth anniversary and Runescape, which offer players a chance to enjoy ministries for prizes.
It is a true product, a real business or not, which one Reddit user thought.

The statement was made that the players did not have the need of FREE IT to feel valued. “You have mentioned three matchs, but in fact almost every online game, which is still active, has better celebrations than that. Only Frank had perhaps their biggest BR update, and I don’t believe it was their birthday? The truth was that, in addition to an extra map, Valve barely altered anything. One of the players who said that they’d play CSGO for 15 years, said it was the biggest event they’ve ever seen. But many users wanted nothing to be too dramatic for Valve to experience commitment.

One Reddit user said, “I don’t want CSGO to change much. It’s a near-perfect game, changing things would be more likely to ruin it… But surely they could do something. A limited-time event (not necessarily an operation), bringing back some older maps (as they were, not completely different like Vertigo. Just for a while for nostalgia). I’m not sure what I expected from Valve but it was more than this. They did pretty much nothing. Ninety per cent of the content in this update was made by the community.”
