Excel Esports has announced that Son ‘Mickey’ Young-Min is renewing his contract with Excel for the 2020 season.
Mickey joined the team in May and became the starting mid laner for the team to replace Joran “Special” Scheffer who is likely to play on the Excel UK regional roster for 2020.
Speaking about the contract renewal, Mickey had this to say:
“I can’t wait to come back to Europe and compete with Excel again. It was great working with Caedrel and Expect last split, and I believe we can reach our goal of play-offs this split.”
The Excel Esports LEC and UK regional rosters are as follows:
Top – Expect/Send0o
Jungler – Caedrel/Taxer
Mid – Micky/Special
ADC – Patrick/Jeskla
Support – Tore/kaSing
During the offseason Excel also made changes to the backroom staff at the organization. Alex Parejo is joining as Assistant Coach and Fabian Broich is joining as Head of Performance for 2020.
Excel also had a major scoop as they confirmed the signing of former Fnatic and G2 Head Coach Joey “YoungBuck” Steltenpool. Joey spent no time improving the Excel roster signing two new additions to the team’s starting roster with rumored signings Tore “Tore” Hoel Eilertsen and Patrik “Patrik” Jírů.
Kieran Holmes-Darby, CEO of Excel Esports, spoke about Mickey signing a new deal:
“At Excel, we’re only interested in talent which we know we can develop into the best of the best. Mickey showed he’s an exceptional player last split and we have been working with him, to turn him into one of the best Mid laners in Europe. I’m delighted that he’s chosen to stay with us as we develop him even further.”
