Everything New in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

by Ashley

This is everything that’s new and changed with Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2!

After a few misfires with changing release dates, the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 patch is here! We’ve got a brand-new season, our second for Chapter 4. There have been loads of changes to the game. There’s a new Battle Pass, new POIs, items, and even new mechanics for getting around the map. If you want to stay on top of the game and climb up the Fortnite ranks for this season, then you’ll need to be up to date with all of the changes.

A new season is always exciting for Fortnite, jumping in and trying out everything that Epic has changed. This new one seems particularly promising, though. There’s a new theme for the Season which is reflected everywhere in the game, not just a few POIs. The Neo-Tokyo theme behind Fortnite Mega is going to massively change how the game plays. The new weapons look like some of the most fun we’ve had for a while. There’s even the whole spread of exotics from last Season that was vaulted far too early, making a return. A lot of the changes seem to address the bigger problems with Chapter 4 so far.

With Epic not quite giving out full patch notes, it’s good to get up to speed with what’s changed in the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 patch. We’ll run you through everything that’s new in Fortnite Chapter 4, and what’s been taken away back to the vault this time around! This is what’s different in Battle Royale.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Patch Notes

New Vehicles in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

A new feature this season is two new vehicles for you to jump into! These are the Victory Crown Rogue and the Nitro Drift.  The first has featured pretty heavily in the build-up to the season, it’s a new type of bike. This is a new version of last Season’s Dirt Bike. It handles a bit better, though and can seat two people. It’s a new dirt bike that better fits the more modern theme of the season. While it’s called Victory Crown, it doesn’t have any connection to the in-game mechanic of getting a crown when winning a round. You don’t need a Victory Crown to ride it thankfully!

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Bike

The other new vehicle is the Nitro Drift. This is a new type of car It’ seats four people and can drift when you go around corners using the handbrake. These are variations on common vehicles in the game that fit the futuristic style of this season.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Car

Along with new vehicles coming, some old vehicles are gone. The dirt bike has left, as have all of the vehicle mods for some reason. On top of that the Motorboat is gone again. That’s basically come and gone with just about every single patch over Chapter 4 and it’s still no clearer why. The mods getting removed will put more emphasis back on choosing the right vehicle, rather than just throwing a cow catcher and tires on anything and speeding off.

New Weapons in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

It wouldn’t be a new Season of Fortnite without new weapons. Although, to some, each new season means new weapons which will completely break the balance of the game for our first few weeks! Long-time fans are going to be happy with this patch as a new form of a long-loved weapon has finally made a comeback. These are the new weapons in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.

Havoc Suppressed Assault Rifle

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - AR

This is a new AR that is suppressed. This means it’s going to make considerably less noise on the map. Now that basically everyone makes use of either 3D audio or on-screen audio indicators, keeping the noise down is increasingly popular. The new AR handles a bit differently from the older weapons, too, it does feel like a fresh version of a suppressed AR rather than just a rename of an old gun.

The automatic AR that’s featured here is also available in a Mythic version. You can get that by taking down the Highcard boss on the new map. This is likely a similar fight to the one that was part of the Most Wanted event.

Havoc Pump Shotgun

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Shotgun

The Havoc Pump Shot is the new shotgun for this season. It is a Pump! Not the Pump, but it feels closer than a lot of what we’ve had recently. Epic has long had cooldowns on switching shotguns though, so don’t get excited that the old Double Pump meta has returned.

There’s a Mythic version of this new gun too! There isn’t a boss for collecting these, though. It’s not limited to a single OP weapon for one player. Instead, you can find them in one of the new Fortnite Vaults that are spread around the map. You’ll need to get a keycard. Then you can open them up and find one of the Havoc Pump Shotguns.

Overclocked Pulse Rifle

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Pulse Rifle

The Pulse Rifle has been in the game a few times in the past. This is a new take on the gun, though. It functions quite similarly to the old Pulse Rifle, but as the name implies, it is a bit souped up now that it’s been overclocked! This is a new Mythic that’s available from one of the Rift encounters that have been a part of the game for a Chapter.

Kinetic Blade

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Kinetic Blade

The Kinetic Blade is a new form of melee attack for the season. This is a knife that you can use. When you perform an attack on a player at close range, or you can use a dash attack to launch yourself forward before attacking. This does feel a bit like a compromise on last season’s Shockwave Hammer. Not as OP, but still plenty useful.

The dash attack is limited to three different charges with a cooldown for them. It functions pretty similarly to the Shockwave Hammer in that respect, but it isn’t quite as heavy.

Returning Weapons in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Exotics

Alongside the brand new Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 weapons, there’s more in the loot pool. These are our returning weapons for the season.

There are some really fun items coming back. That includes the Fortnite Heisted weapons we previously saw in the Most Wanted event. There’s also the Heavy Sniper Rifle, which is always fun to get back in the mix.

  • Heavy Sniper Rifle
  • Cobra DMR
  • Dragon’s Breath Sniper
  • Combat Shotgun
  • Heisted Exotics
  • Maven Auto Shotgun
  • Red-Eye Assault Rifle
  • Twin Mag SMG
  • Tactical Pistol
  • Chug Cannon

New Heals in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Slurp

Healing in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 has had some changes The Slurp juice that made a return mid-season last time around has been altered. It now restores more health and shield, getting to nearly a full heal. It also works significantly faster. In essence it’s basically halfway between the old Slurp Juice and the Chug Jug.

This new version of the Slurp Juice is much more effective. It’s not as common though. You’ll have to find it from Vaults where you need keycards, the rift encounters, or Combat Caches. Being much more limited makes it more balanced while making this a more unique healing item. You can’t find it in every single cooler anymore, but there’s a much bigger reward for actually grabbing one.

New Reality Augments

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Augments

Reality Augments were the headline new feature for Chapter 4 and they’re here to stay. This season has added a whole batch of new Reality Augments. Alongside altering a few of the existing ones to make them work a bit better. These are the new additions to the reality augments for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.

  • Dumpster Diving – When you hide in an object like a dumpster, you’ll find loot and spawn loot items as you leave the hiding spot.
  • Treasure Hunter – Every time you enter a POI all of the chests will be marked for you.
  • Slap Surplus – Every chest that you open will also drop one slap juice
  • Munitions Slide – Get medium ammo every time you slide
  • Medium Ammo Amp – Medium ammo weapons get a bigger magazine so you can fire more without reloading.
  • Shotgun Recycle – Shotgun ammo has a chance to not get used every time that you take a shot.
  • Dignified Finish – Each elimination will refresh the cooldown for your Kinetic Blade Dash Attack

On top of these, there are some other Reality Augments which are sticking around. These are the returning Reality Augments in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.

  • Light Fingers
  • Sniper Surplus
  • Aerialist
  • Chug Gunner
  • Jelly Angler
  • Bloodhound
  • Shadow Striker
  • More Parkour
  • Keymaster

The rest of them have been vaulted for the time being. Epic does like to mess around with the pool of Augments, though, so it won’t stay like this all season. We might see the return of quite a few more Augments further into Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Map Changes

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - POI

The map for Chapter 4 has been fun, but so far, it’s a bit lacking in POIs. It’s our lowest number ever, which makes the new map additions one of the best changes to Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. We’ve got four whole new POIs added! These are mainly themed around the futuristic Tokyo style for this season. These are our new POIs for the season.

  • Mega City
  • Knotty Nets
  • Steamy Springs
  • Kenjutsu Crossing

Each of the new POIs features the Grind Rails. These are rails that stretch around the map that you can jump on and ride. It’s grinding similarly to games like Sonic. While grinding, you’ll move a lot faster. You’re even able to take shots using your weapons. This is going to make navigating the new space a lot easier this season. Although, since you’re literally on rails, your movement is pretty predictable to enemies lying in wait with a sniper too.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Rails

As well as those new POIs, one entire corner of the map has had a revamp. The Southeast is now an entire futuristic area. There are Japanese-themed elements, too though, like blossom trees and a general change to the architecture. This spices things up quite a bit from Chapter 4, Season 1’s map.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Battle Pass

It’s a new season so we’re getting a brand new Battle Pass. As usual, there are loads of new skins along with other cosmetics. The big new outfits are Renzo the Destroyer, Imani, Thunder, Mystica, Stray, Highwire, and Mizuki. There’s also the Attack on Titan crossover here which is this Season’s Bonus Skin. That won’t unlock for a little while longer, though. It’ll come with its own Mythic when it does, but that will be mid-season.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 - Bonus Skin

The Battle Pass this season is a bit lower on crossovers than we’ve had lately. The bonus skin coming from pop culture is expected at this point. Lately, we’ve gotten crossover characters for the tier 100 skin too. Last Season we even had a crossover skin halfway through the Battle Pass.  The Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass is a bit more restrained though, getting back to cool original skins instead of relying so heavily on licensed characters. It’s a refreshing return after crossover overload.

Changes to Support in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

The new Season has seen some changes to the system requirements for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. Some players on Windows are going to have to make an upgrade if they want to carry on playing Fortnite. You’ll need to use Windows 10 or higher to continue running it. Windows 7 and 8 are now entirely unsupported in Fortnite. If you’re making an upgrade, it’s a good time to make sure you’re using the best Fortnite settings to get the best performance that you can.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Competitive

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2

The Fortnite esports side of the game will get its second major with the new season. As usual, half of the new content isn’t going to be available off the bat. These are the items and features that won’t be on the competitive side of the game for the season.

  • Heavy Sniper Rifle
  • Heisted Exotics
  • Chug Cannon
  • Sniper Surplus Reality Augment
  • Chug Gunner Reality Augment
  • Rogue Bike
  • Nitro Drifter Car

Some of this stuff is pretty unlikely to stay out of competitive the whole time. However, a lot of it has been in the game in the past without ever hitting the playlist for tournaments. Heisted exotics probably won’t ever show up in this game mode.

Those are all of the major changes to Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. It looks set to be an exciting season, so jump in and see how the new features play before we start with tournaments and patches to nerf the new stuff!
