Esports-Light Week Helps Influencers Move Up the Rankings: Top Twitch Channels, August 5 – 11

A lack of high-profile esports tournaments and events outside of the Overwatch League and League of Legends Championship Series play led to a top 10 laden with influencers from a number of different of backgrounds.

The following channels are ranked according to the total number of hours watched on Twitch from Monday to the following Sunday, with data compiled using TEO Access.

 

 

Class of His Own

 

Turner “Tfue” Tenney has been the most-watched personality streamer so far this year, and it’s not even close. His 63.2M hours watched is around 15M more than Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek who sits in second place. 

So it’s no surprise that on a week filled with influencers in the top 10, he sits at the top of the list of personalities. 

 

 

While some influencers have taken breaks from the main game they play, switched games, or even hop quickly from game to game in a given week, Tenney’s consistency is unmatched. With more than 1K hours of airtime this year on Fortnite, he has carved out a spot in the space as a reliable source of cartoonish battle royale content in a way that helps him build his brand and viewership base. 

Something Different

 

In contrast to Tenney, other top influencers on Twitch this week such as Grzesiek and Félix “xQc” Lengyel have managed to generate viewership by playing a large variety of games. While Tenney exclusively played Fortnite this past week, Lengyel ended up streaming in 20 different categories, and Grzesiek broadcasted in 14. 

 

 

While Grzesiek found a lot of his success playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and “Just Chatting,” a game he was formerly a professional at, Lengyel got the most viewership for his stream from “Just Chatting” and Minecraft. Overwatch, a game that Lengyel has played professionally, was a close third for him. Meanwhile, Grzesiek also produced notable viewership for Overwatch despite playing it for just 3.4 hours. 

 

 

Looking for Variety

 

While not all influencers took the same route as Lengyel and Grzesiek to get into the top 10 this week, the plethora of personalities came from a myriad of backgrounds and games, with no singular title standing out above the rest. 

While Tenney and Nick “NickMercs” Kolcheff are most known for playing Fortnite, Lengyel and Grzesiek played a variety of games. Meanwhile, others in the top 10 had different specific titles that they drew success from playing. 

Zach “Asmongold” [last name unknown], known for playing World of Warcraft, recorded 1.2M hours watched on the title. Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar played a combination of CS:GO and Grand Theft Auto V. Thijs Molendijk, a prominent Hearthstone streamer, had 1.1M hours watched on Blizzard Entertainment’s online card game, and Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris played Slots and Call of Duty
