Modern Times Group (MTG), the parent company of esports operators ESL and DreamHack, has elected new members to its Board of Directors. Following its annual general meeting, the Swedish Media firm’s board includes additional non-executive directors with professional backgrounds in computing, video games, and sports. The new board members include Dawn Hudson, Marjorie Lao, and Chris Carvalho.

Dawn Hudson is a consultant and board member of NVIDIA, a visual computing company that caters heavily to the PC gaming market with graphics processing units. She is also a board member of Interpublic, and between 2014-2018 was executive vice president and chief marketing officer for the NFL.

Marjorie Lao was most recently CFO of the LEGO Group, which she joined in 2014 following a role as CFO of Tandberg ASA, acquired by Cisco in 2009. She is also a board member of Logitech International, which produces computer peripherals and software—including a dedicated competitive gaming brand, Logitech G

Chris Carvalho is an advisor and board member of several gaming and start-up companies, including Roblox, Rogue Games, Gram Games, PlayFab, and MTGx. He also spent four years as chief operating officer at Kabam, and ten years at Lucasfilm where he headed up business development, and ran the company’s internet division, StarWars.com.

In its financial results for the first quarter of 2020, MTG reported a net loss for the period of kr132M ($13.35M USD) compared to a similar net loss of kr133M ($13.45M) in the same period of last year. The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and its resulting quarantine regulations had a negative impact on MTG’s esports vertical, however, its gaming vertical maintained stable performance and saw an accelerated inflow of new users.
