CSGO Hits 1.5 Million Concurrent Players On Steam

by Sonu Banerjee

Valve’s popular first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a title that turns 11-year-old this year, can’t stop hitting new milestones. After repeatedly setting new records of hitting new player peaks over the past few weeks, CS:GO finally reached the glorious milestone of a whopping 1.5 million concurrent players on March 26, 2023 – a feat that only one other Steam game has been able to achieve in the platform’s history.

The news comes after the official announcement of ‘Counter-Strike 2’ by Valve. For the uninitiated, CS2 is set to be a successor to CS:GO, and will feature the upgraded Source 2 engine alongside a plethora of other changes.

Previously, the only game that has managed to hit a concurrent player count of over 1.5 million on Steam is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The battle royale by KRAFTON managed to hit an astonishing 3.2 million concurrent player count in 2017, and still holds the crown for the most concurrent players on Steam.

Part of the credit for the constantly increasing popularity of CS:GO can go to the release of the Counter-Strike 2 limited test. While the full game is scheduled for launch in Summer 2023, Valve has already shipped a beta test for the upcoming game that a limited number of CS:GO players can opt into.

Whether or not Counter-Strike 2 can meet fans’ expectations and surpass the precedent that CS:GO has set for it still remains to be seen.
