CS:GO, Dota 2 Take Majority of Top 10 Spots – Weekly Twitch Top 10s, June 22-28

by Trent Murray

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 tournaments have routinely claimed top spots in Twitch’s list of top channels since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. This week, however, the Valve esports went one step further, claiming the top six spots on the Top 10.

On the content side, the loss of drops for Escape From Tarkov immediately returned Just Chatting to the top of the heap.

Twitch’s Top Channel – Gaules

Portuguese-language CS:GO coverage once again leads the “Gaules” channel to top Twitch’s ranking, generating 3.39M hours watched. While the constant wave of CS:GO tournaments has been a boon for the channel, its numbers are helped by marathon streams, some over 24-hours in length which also broadcast replays of previous events.

This week, Gaules was joined at the top by another alternate-language esports broadcast – the Russian stream of the Beyond Epic Dota 2 tournament. It is rare to see both Valve titles vying for top streaming spots in the same week, but the recent glut of regional events for Dota 2 combined with CS:GO’s never-ending competition schedule led to major tournaments for both games falling on the same weekend, allowing their various broadcasts to take up the top six spots on this week’s top 10.

Twitch’s Top Content – Just Chatting

As predicted last week, the end of viewership incentives for Escape From Tarkov sent the game plummeting back near the bottom of the Top 10 and returned Just Chatting to its place at the top, generating 40.48M hours watched.

Looking beyond Just Chatting and its continued dominance, Riot Games’ new shooter title VALORANT appears to have cemented itself within the lower half of the top 10, generating roughly 12M hours watched for several consecutive weeks. As the game’s esports scene grows, it will likely see some spikes during weekend-long events, and perhaps during significant content updates such as new characters, but will otherwise remain in its current position.
