CSGO Asia Championships Format and Participants

by Ian Zane

The upcoming competition is set for the CS: GO Asia Championships (CAC), Shanghai, China, from 20-24 November. The event is of huge importance not only for the Asian professional scene but for the whole game.

CAC will be a great show, along with numerous opportunities for esports betting for those who like to gamble on CS: GO and for $500,200 in prizes and 8 of the best teams in the world to participate.

CS: GO Asia Championships take place in two stages of the CS: GO Asia Championship. The teams were split into two groups of four for the Group Stage. Each of these groups will be played in the GSL format. It’s Bo3 each match. Semifinals are the champions. Teams of the 2nd and 3rd place make progress to the fourth finals. All games are Bo3 in playoffs and the format is one-release.

CS: GO Asia Championships brings together eight teams. Teams playing CS: GO Asia Championships:

  • AVANGAR
  • ViCi Gaming
  • TYLOO
  • G2 Esports
  • ENCE
  • Evil Geniuses
  • MIBR
  • mousesports

Most of the teams are one of the best in the world. In particular, Evil Geniuses is the second-best team in the world, after Astralis, in the world classifications, moussports, ENCE, G2 and MIBR are the 12th–15th places, whereas TYLOO and ViCi Gaming are the strongest teams in Asia. ABANGAR are also among the finalists from the last major. None of them is currently in the top 30, which is why they will probably find it difficult to survive. They will not be placed in the same band, of course, that is very unlikely.

Favourites in Asia Championships

A lot of powerful teams are in the Asia Championships this year. And the gap between skills is not as great. Differences exist, however, and because of that, several teams that will probably be in the Grand Final can clearly be defined.

The team list of EVIL GENIUSES was impressive throughout the year. They first played NRG and received several top four scores, then joined EG and began playing even better. They have just taken part in three major tournaments over the last seven weeks and won two of them: ESL One: New York and StarSeries & the I CS: GO Season 8.

I believe that EG is the big favourite for CS: GO Asia Championships, based on everything they’ve shown us over the past few months. We were probably twice as likely as their opponents to win the tournament.

MOUSESPORTS

It is another excellent team, led by Karrigan, one of the world’s best IGLs. We have not seen mouse sports do anything unique in their present learning to date, but there are certainly talents and promise. Mouse sports have a real chance to make it throughout the Grand Final at events like the CS: GO Asia Championships, where the majority of world’s best teams are missing. You will hardly win it, especially if you meet EG during the last match, but you have to get there.
