A Few Things to Know Before You Start Playing CS:GO

A few handy tips for CS:GO noobs.

CS:GO is one of the most legendary shooters in the world. Besides being a game that people play for fun, CS:GO is also one of the biggest esports in the world. There are loads of teams that compete in numerous events, most of which have amazing prize pools.

Despite the fact that this game has been around for almost 10 years now, new players decide to give it a try daily. Some of them have previous experience with other shooters, such as CoD, so they know what to expect. However, others haven’t played any shooters before, which means they have no idea what to focus on.

CS:GO is a pretty straightforward game on paper because your objective is to win the round. With that being said, there are many small tips and tricks that make some players better than others, so let’s check them.

Learning to play against AWPers

Like most shooters out there, CS:GO has loads of different weapons. The game is famous for things, such as the AK-47 or M4A1, because people love using them. However, there is one weapon that definitely takes the crown for the most popular – the AWP..

The sniper in CS:GO is extremely powerful because one direct hit guarantees a kill (unless you hit someone in the legs). Unsurprisingly, every professional team has at least one AWPer because this weapon has a lot of specifics. In other words, only a few people know how to use it to its full potential.

Speaking of AWPers, you need to learn how to play against them. It may seem easy, but in reality, a good AWPer can make your life a living hell. Dealing with those people is easier said than done because if they are good, they will always have good positioning. Needless to say, this will allow them to score a few kills as soon as their opponents show up.

One of the things you can do if you have to play against an AWPer is to use as many smokes as possible. Blocking a given player’s LoS means he will have to rotate in order to use the gun. This will provide you with enough time to reposition and even score a kill.

Aside from using smokes, you can also use flash. However, this is riskier because if you fail to flash the given player or he hides from it, you won’t be able to do anything.

Playing against a good AWPer is not easy, so you will probably make a lot of mistakes. With that being said, knowing what to do will increase your chances of killing the target.

Learning how and when to peek

Most people who want to play CS:GO try to learn more about the weapons and the maps. Although those two things are crucial, there are other aspects users should be aware of. One of them is related to peeking, something that people use in different situations.

The word “peek” in CS:GO is used to describe the process when someone decides to check if there are any opponents behind a given wall or other objectives. In other words, when you “peek”, you reveal yourself, which makes you vulnerable because the enemies can kill you.

Learning how to peek correctly will take a lot of time, even if you have some experience. You need to take into account all sorts of things, such as the number of enemies, the map, the position you’re at, and so on. As you can probably guess, it is not a good idea to peek first if you have the bomb and you know that there is an AWPer.

There are a couple of types of peeks you have to be aware of. The first one is often referred to as “shoulder peek” because you simply “reveal” your shoulders. Although this may not look efficient, it is strong against enemies with rifles because they shouldn’t be able to kill you right away. Once they start shooting, you will know that there is someone you need to be aware of.

The regular grenade has multiple purposes

We can all agree that learning more information about the utilities in CS:GO is of utmost importance. Unfortunately, many people forget that and often start playing without knowing how to take advantage of them.

While it’s true that smokes and flashes are harder to master, you should also pay some attention to the standard grenade. Using it might not seem that hard on paper because you just have to throw it and hope it will do as much damage as possible. This is true, but there are several tips and tricks that you probably haven’t heard of.

The first one is the fact that you can use your grenade to destroy specific objects on the map, such as doors. Although this may not seem that important, it can save you in many situations because you can trick your opponents.

Another thing many people might not know is that the grenade can be used to escape from some tricky situations. Since it releases a cloud of smoke for a few moments after it explodes, people can use this to run from certain chokepoints.

Last but not least, there are some situations where people use the grenade to get to a specific weapon. Depending on where you throw it, exploding near a given weapon might move it closer to you.

Grenades makes noise, so be careful

Everyone who plays CS:GO knows that sound plays a crucial role in this game. Having a good headset can make a difference, especially if you want to become good at the game. Although everyone knows that people make noise when running and shooting, not that many players are aware that throwing grenades also makes some noises.

If there is an enemy close to you and he hears that you are throwing a grenade, he can rush and kill you. Since throwing the grenade has its own animation, you won’t be able to draw out your weapon for at least a few seconds. Usually, this is more than enough for your opponent to score a kill.

Now that you know this information, you can use it to your advantage when playing ranked games. Try to fake the fact that you want to throw a grenade so that you can lure your opponent. You should be able to kill him easily.
