PUBG Corp. Director of Esports Jake Sin announced on Twitter that he has left PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS to pursue other opportunities.

I’m incredibly proud of what my small team was able to accomplish in just one year of existence,” he wrote. “Of course there are many things I wished were done better, but they would have required committing company-wide resources well beyond my reach.”

In 2019, PUBG moved to a regional league structure with several international competitions spread throughout the year. Although the game awarded over $12M USD in prize money according to Esports Earnings, the regional leagues struggled to attract viewers, and a number of organizations have announced their departure from the scene in recent months including Tempo Storm, Dignitas, Lazarus Esports, Spacestation Gaming, Pittsburgh Knights, and Cloud9.

“This was one of the best rosters we’ve ever fielded,” wrote Tempo Storm CEO Andrew “Reynad” Yanyuck on Twitter following the team’s exit from the game. “We’re incredibly disappointed to have to release them. The team won almost every possible event, and the players did everything right. Really disappointed in PUBG Corp here.”

Earlier this month, PUBG Corp. announced a move away from regional leagues in 2020 to focus on four major live events. The system will also emphasize crowdfunding for each event’s prize pool and provide more revenue for those teams which remain in the scene.
